Many expats might become complacent with all that Thailand has to offer and be cynical about whether it is worth the risk and complexity of coming to Thailand during the Covid-19 pandemic. But a survey conducted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports found that foreign tourists have an overall positive view of travel to Thailand. In fact, the average scores on 14 key factors have increased from a similar survey last year, according to the survey released on Christmas Eve.

The survey titled “Attitudes and Satisfaction of Thai and Foreign Tourists Traveling to Thailand” was conducted in 10 tourism provinces during the last 6 months of the year by interviewing 2,000 international travelers in face-to-face interviews. The Deputy Permanent Secretary announced the results.

14 categories were used to determine the overall satisfaction of tourists and after calculating the numbers, the ministry revealed that tourists rated Thailand with a satisfaction rating of 87.7%. The previous survey in 2020 had rated Thailand only 84.9% satisfaction. The 14 categories they surveyed foreign tourists on were:

  1. Airports
  2. Public transport services
  3. Reception centers
  4. Sea / Beach Attractions
  5. Ecotourism
  6. Historical sites
  7. Hosting services
  1. Restaurant / Food and beverage outlets
  2. Merchandise / Souvenir Shops
  3. Health services
  4. Tour guide services
  5. Tourist guides
  6. Thai services
  7. Thailand Tourism Directory website visitors

The survey showed the general happiness tourists felt about their trips to Thailand and detailed the 3 favorite things and the last 3 satisfaction scores out of the 14. The 3 areas that Thailand rated highest in the survey were:

  1. 91.4% – Thai. Tourists love how welcoming, helpful and friendly Thais were.
  2. 90.8% – Health care services. International travelers have found Thailand’s healthcare options affordable and decent.
  3. 90.3% – Accommodation services. The hotels were considered to be reasonably priced, welcoming and practical. Tourists said the SHA and SHA + standards were also good.

The last 3 categories were:

  1. The Thailand tourism directory website – Many tourists had never heard of the website before.
  2. Ecotourism – Tourists discovered that ecotourism places had the dreaded double price for locals and foreigners, as well as toilet problems.
  3. Sea / beach attractions – Although Thailand is known for its beaches, Covid-19 has closed many, and tourists have complained about unsanitary conditions and dirty bathrooms on beaches that were open.
