IWF Board meets virtually to discuss key issues
The new Board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has met virtually to discuss a number of pressing issues that will support the continued development of the federation.
The upcoming IWF Athletes’ Commission (AC) election was discussed as Commission Chairman Forrester Christopher Osei presented the changes the AC has made to the nomination forms for the election, which will be distributed in September. The election will take place during the IWF World Championships in Bogota on 5-December 16, 2022.
The EB unanimously elected Matthew Curtain, EB Member and CEO/General Secretary of the British Weightlifting Federation, as the IF Delegate for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. ‘EB, Sam Coffa, has been appointed Technical Delegate for the Commonwealth Games Victoria 2026 and the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation. and Pacific Weightlifting Federation General Secretary Paul Coffa has been appointed Technical Delegate for the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Updates were also provided on TV/digital production and media rights distribution from the federation. The EC heard presentations from interested external parties and agreed to a three-day extension to allow for further discussion before making a final decision.
The EC approved the creation of three new Commissions:
- Weightlifting Sport and Innovation Commission
- Membership Commission
- Public Relations and Communications Committee
The composition and terms of reference of the commissions will be announced in due course.
In collaboration with the European Weightlifting Federation, the EC has agreed to provide financial assistance to Ukrainian weightlifters currently training in Romania. The EC thanked the Romanian Weightlifting Federation for the support it has provided to date.
The EC has also approved ZhangKong Company (ZKC) as the official supplier of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The next meeting of the EC will take place in person in Rome on October 3, 2022.
