Canada is rated as the most popular destination for expatriates in the latest “World’s Best Countries Index”.

The index, a global survey conducted by CEOWORLD magazine and the Global Business Policy Institute, examines 31 key statistical categories in 150 countries, ranging from culture to business, quality of life to tax burdens.To determine which countries are most beneficial for expats, the study looked at factors such as personal happiness, health and well-being, security, digital life, environmental quality, ease of use installation, personal finances and career prospects.In this year’s ranking, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan follow Canada in the lead. This compares to the top three from Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand in the latest HSBC “Expat Explorer”, which is based more on personal experiences than statistical analysis.According to the new study, 71% of expatriates are individual workers, with international students accounting for 8%, retirees 4% and people transferring to companies 3%.The study estimated that the category of international students would experience the fastest percentage increase between 2021 and 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.8%.“Individual expats are expected to have the second highest growth rate at 4.1%, followed by retired expats (3.2%) and people transferred by companies (3.1%), said CEOWORLD.In total, the study estimates that there are around 56.8 million expats currently living in the world. Over the past five years, the compound annual growth rate has been 4.7%.In other sections of the index, the United States was ranked as the most entrepreneurial country in the world, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom.The United States was also ranked as the most startup friendly country, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada.“The United States has secured its top spot for a number of reasons, among which its research and development capacity is critical.
