Information meeting on consumer decision-making

Consumer decision-making teaches participants to become smart buyers, make informed decisions, and speak in public. If you are interested in consumer decision making or would like more information about this project, an information meeting will be held on December 21, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the extension office.

Need help shearing your show animal?

If you need assistance in shearing your show animal for the Youth Fair, please contact the extension office and arrange a date and time. If you need to borrow a mower, blower, blocking table, etc. please contact the extension office. We have a limited number of these items, so if you borrow them we need them within 24 hours. If you have any questions, please contact the extension office.

Working days for the youth fair

January 8, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Attendance is required on any of the days to receive Brown County Youth Fair Premium Auction premium checks in addition to requiring buyers thank you notes. Appropriate attire is mandatory, namely jeans (long pants) and closed shoes. If you were unable to attend at least one of these workdays, you should write a one-page essay explaining why you were unable to attend and present it in person at the February board meeting in the entire board for review.

2021-2022 Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship

The Texas 4-H Youth Development Program and the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation are once again pleased to offer our High School 4-H members and current students the opportunity to apply for a scholarship through Texas 4-H. Youth Development Foundation. This year, Texas 4-H members can apply for scholarships in three areas, Bachelor, Courageous Heart, and Technical. Former Texas 4-H members will be able to apply for scholarships through the College Scholarship Program. Information can be received through the Brown County Extension Office or downloaded from the Texas 4-H Foundation website at: https://texas4hfoundation.org/

November 30, 2021 – Submit your intention to the county office if you are considering applying

December 14, 2021 – County exam scheduled for February 15, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. – Application deadline April 29 – May 1, 2022 – Interviews at College Station May 2022 – Notifications of awards June 7-9, 2022 – Scholarship banquets at College Station

Photos will be taken individually and in groups at that time. These can be used by the judge later in the day if needed.

The practice of the fashion show (compulsory participation) will take place as soon as each competitor appears before the judge in their last garment or if there is a certain lapse of time between clothes, they can practice, they must sign the list when they practice.

The construction will be judged after the appearance judgment and the lunch break for the judges. Only judges and authorized persons are allowed at this time.

Large youth workshop

The BIG Youth conference will host its 2022 conference on January 11, 2022. This workshop will be held virtually, so you can join from your classroom, home, etc. This year’s conference is focused on empowering the voice of youth in agriculture and will feature presentations from Dr Whitt Weems, Organization-Texas Farm Bureau Director, Wendy Scott, Extension for Development Program Specialist 4-H Youth in District 2; and a panel discussion hosted by our own District 8 4-H President and the Texas 4-H Council 2nd Vice President, Brinley Allison. The panel will include members of the State 4-H Council and FFA State agents from Texas.

This conference aims to promote youth leadership in agriculture and is open to any school-aged member of 4-H, FFA or FCCLA.

Registrations are now open and will be until December 31st. On the registration form, you have a place to submit questions to our panelists.
